My Fav: Oscars

Awards season is practically my favorite thing ever.  From the pre-shows, to the interviews, to the red carpet, to the actual awards, I love it all.  And there is no better place to see an actress take out all the stops, other than the Oscars.  So before I go any further into looking at the women of the awards show and their fabulous gowns I want to say that every single woman looked beautiful that night.  And obviously little old me making comments about their dresses, shouldn't offend anyone because it's just my fashionista oppinion. Feel free to disagree! :)
Best in Show:
1. Jenna Dewan-Tatum - Rachel Roy
Even pregnant, this woman brought beautiful, classic, and sexy to the red carpet.  This gown paired with gorgeous intense makeup, and an updo to show it all off, was impeccably put together.
2. Jessica Chastain - Armani
The picture of classic Hollywood, with soft curls and red lips. Her dress complimented her shape and skin color with just a little bit of sparkle, so it's not too plain.
3. Naomi Watts - Armani
A daring cutout makes this sparkling gown to die for.
4. Amanda Seyfried - Alexander McQueen
Simply beuatiful in lilac with a structured collar, but not to stuffy.
5. Halle Berry - Versace
The true image of a sexy Bond girl, with classy vertical stripes and a sexy plunge.
6. Jennifer Lawrence - Christian Dior
Simply clean and pure in a white cream gown, with an interesting twist with a backwards necklace.

Didn't Quite Show Up:
1. Kristen Stewart - Reem Acra
A beautiful dress...on someone else. Maybe someone with a personality or a hair stylist.
2. Kerry Washington - Miu Miu
We've graduated from high-school, so there's no need for a prom dress on the red carpet.
3. Jennifer Hudson - Roberto Cavalli
Overdose on blue.
4. Helen Hunt - H&M
There's a reason stars swing for designer dresses, because they are tailored to fit...correctly.
5. Nicole Kidman - L'Wren Scott
The top of the dress starts to have potential but it all goes downhill as you move downwards.
6. Anne Hathaway - Prada
I've never seen such a super star look so plain.
Honorable Mentions:
Jennifer Aniston - Valentino
Reese Witherspoon - Luis Vuitton
Jennifer Garner - Gucci
Adele - Jenny Packham
Octavia Spencer - Tadashi Shoji
Charlize Theron - Dior
Catherine Zeta-Jones - Zuhair Murad
Sandra Bullock - Elie Saab

Doing My Nails

I love doing my nails, but sometimes it can be a pain in my butt. I can my right hand always looks worse than my left! But I guess my left does need to look better since it's basically useless (I'm not the least bit ambidextrous). And then after all the hard work you have to wait until they are COMPLETELY dry, but that never happens because one always gets mysteriously smudged. After going through quite a few disastrous self-manis, I hope that my tips will make your home salon experiences a little easier.

My Process:

1. I do some cleanup.

  • I clip my nails to the length I want. ( I have super bad nails so they usually aren't long.)
  • I use a basic emory board to smooth the edges. I also shape: if my nails are longer I go for a square shape, but when they're short I round them to fit my fingertip.
  • I go around my cuticle with cuticle clippers, to remove dead skin that turns into painful hang nails. (TIP: always pull toward the tips of your fingers, never toward you palm or you'll rip the skin into a "quick" and draw blood and a few tears)
  • I use a Seacret Buffing Block to even the surface of the nail. it also makes the surface rough so the nail polish holds better.
2. I do maintenance work.

  • I use Seacret Cuticle Oil to treat dry cuticles and make a healthier nail bed and nail. I put one drop at the base of each nail, and massage into cuticle. Let sit for a minute or two.
  • To get rid of the oily feeling I use Avon Naturals Antibacterial Hand Gel.
3. I start with a strong foundation.

  • My favorite right now is Sally Hansen Double Duty Strengthening Base & Top Coat.
  • Make sure it dries completely before starting the next step. (TIP: To make sure wait enough time I use a timer that I stole from a board game. Flip it once for clear coats, and twice for color coats.)
4. I add a pop of color.

  • I go through and add one thin, thin, thin, coat of the color I choose. You don't want to add too much nail polish at one time or it will be goopy and won't dry.
  • I do the first layer on all of my nails, before going back to do the second coat. Do how ever many coats you need to get the even color, but make sure you let each layer dry first to avoid the goop. (TIP: On the last layer, take a small amount of polish and run the brush along the edge of your nail. This seals the color and prevents chipping longer.)
5. I top it off.

  • I apply a thin coat of Delore Nails Nail Polish Dryer before the top coat, just to make sure everything is drying completely.
  • I put a generous coat of Borghese Presto Fast Dry Top Coat and use the sealing technique I mentioned.

Make sure when you do your nails, you have time to spare afterwards. Avoid touching anything (especially your hair! it's a common thing that most people don't think about) for at least ten minutes, fifteen to be completely safe.

My Look:

Don't be afraid to go crazy! Try something new, have fun. :)

Bath and Body Works

Okay, so I'm obsessed with a lot of things, and I mean a lot.  But the one thing that never seems to get replaced by a new trend, fad, or fancy; is Bath and Body Works.

If you have never been in a B&BW store, then you've been living under a rock (one that doesn't smell like a heavenly wonderland that only B&BW can supply) and if you have then you get the appeal.  If you are one of those people living under a rock, I don't blame you, but I want to open your eyes and nose to this place before you happily crawl back into your hole.

This place has anything and everything that can spiff you up and make you smell like an abundance of things... from a Paris Night to an Island Margarita and everything in between.

They carry hand sanitizer (that comes in all-too convenient totable sizes and even have holders to match any thing). I don't think I've ever been in the store when they haven't had a sale on these minis or their assortment of lip glosses and balms.

My current holder and scent: Black Pearl

My back ups ;)

5 for $5 on mini hand sanitizers. My favorites are: Island Margarita, Fresh Picked Strawberries, Pink Chiffon and Black Pearl.

They also come in full sized bottles, great for presents! 4 for $15 or 6 for $20

As for the lip glosses it's buy 2, get 1 free! My favorite of all time is the Mentha Shimmer Tint, it's got a pretty pink sparkle but since I live in the frigid mountains, it feels like my chapped lips take a vacation.

The last thing I just have to mention is B&BW's True Blue Spa.  It's got all the trappings to turn your bathroom into a spa. But what I utilize most is the self-tanner.  Once again I live in the mountains during my semesters, where it rains and snows all day, most days. So when I'm not home in Texas, I'm here....and pale. I use the True Blue Spa Airbruch Tan and the Self Tanning Lotion and Bronzer.  They are all amazing, and even though I have a special process to keep from turning orange and streaky (I'll share that later), it is super easy to work with.

Ken & Dana Design

Even though there's no marriage for this girl (...yet), I can't help myself but to look.  And this website makes me want to not only look, but basically get engaged to myself just so I can have one of their AMAZING rings.

If the variety of these engagement rings and wedding bands doesn't immediately catch your eye, look a little closer at the company's ethics.  They are able to make these gorgeous rings while still being environmentally and socially responsible in many ways.  It's amazing that they produce these unique pieces with recycled metal and diamonds that follow the Kimberly Process system. If that still isn't enough for those with tight holds on your wallets; they give some proceeds to Global Witness.

Even in the simplest forms, these rings are anything but plain, but it's plain to see that this company and their products are worth it.

Go check it out! Ken & Dana Design
And don't forget about the Treasure Chest that has their collection of other fine jewelry.

P.S. Some of my personal favorites!
